A Kafka Parable #3
1987
oil on canvas
56 in. x 70 in.
During the exhibition of the series, A Kafka Parable at Galerie Michel Tetreault (Montreal), the entire short text of A Knock at the Manor Gate, by Kafka was handed out to visitors. Eight sentences within the story appeared in italics. Those 8 sentences are the titles for the 8 paintings. Using the story as a source, a completely different narrative was developed, thereby allowing for a double reading of Kafka's parable.
